Talismans
For years, I have been interested in ancient totems, armor and metalwork.
Whether it is Pre-Columbian, Native American, African, Byzantine or Celtic, there is no lack of respect for the artisans’ skills. There always is some pearl of insight or inspiration that is gleaned from a book
or museum exhibition that ultimately influences my work.
Using the symbolism of protective shields and armor, confident empowerment becomes a statement. There is nothing better than meeting a woman who says,
“Your work is very lovely but I couldn’t wear it.”
After some encouragement, they will try on a piece of jewelry.
Whether they realize it or not, part of them is truly transformed.
The door to the inner voice of confidence that lies within is cracked open.

Using sheet metals and wire, each piece of jewelry is custom designed, hand cut, forged and sometimes soldered. Depending on the metal, patinas may be applied and when complete are sealed with lacquer or wax.
Since reactions between the metals and patinas are not consistent, the depth and tone of color will vary with each piece.
There also are variations from piece to piece due to the handcrafted nature of the jewelry.
